Krapfenwaldbad offers one of the loveliest views over Vienna. There’s only one little minus: It’s takes quite a long time to get there (about 1 hour by public transport). The fin-de-siècle bath is located in the midst of Viennas extensive vineyards in the North-West of the city. The little pool offers an impressive view over the inner city and St. Stephan’s Cathedral. The bath is less gay than Schönbrunnerbad, but if you are into sun-tanned muscle guys, it’s the place to be. The impression that Krapfenwaldbad is the place where the bold and the beautifull enjoy summer is definitively not wrong. There’s plenty of super-styled muscle guys lingering in and outside the pool.
There’s also a walled naturist area called “Sonnenbad” (sun bath), separating women and men. The two pools are rather small, but therefore better suited to see and to be seen. The self-service buffet on a little hill offers typical Austrian public-swimming-pool-style food, like fries, sausages, coffee and cake. Highlights are the extensive outdoor-service area and Viennese-style iced coffee. A small booth sells popsicles and beverages.
If you wanna have a lovely view over Vienna, going to Krapfenwaldbad is definitively better than Cobenzl - the great view is as good as from Cobenzl, but you can enjoy it while dabbling in the swimming ppol. And consider the hot guys lingering around …
