QWIEN - Center for LGBT culture and history
QWIEN is the center for the documtentation and studies of gay and lesbian life in Vienna. Andreas Brunner and Hannes Sulzenbacher are the masterminds behind the center. The center offers the largest LGBT library for research and students as well as to the interested public. Recently, QWIEN’s research topics focus on the prosecution of homosexuals during the reign of the Nazis and the existence of a gay culture and community dating back to the times of the Austro-Hungarian Hapsburg empire as well as the rebuilding of gay and lesbian community in the wake of World War II.
